Donate to Serre de la Madone

The future of Serre de la Madone is in play

Years of neglect, along with time, climate change, and outdated infrastructure have all contributed to eroding terraces, hothouses in disrepair, a malfunctioning irrigation network, and uneven surfaces that pose a danger to visitors.

Without ambitious intervention, this reputed beacon of Riviera gardens lovingly created by Lawrence Johnston risks disappearance.

A collective effort to save this exceptional garden

To confront the situation, three major actors have come together to begin the immense process of restoration:

  • The town of Menton
  • The Conservatoire du Littoral
  • The Association pour la Sauvegarde des Jardins d’Exception du Mentonnais (ASJEM)

But to complete their mission, financial help is needed from generous donors like yourself.

A project recognized by the “Fondation du Patrimoine”

Crucial assistance has arrived in the form of the Mission Stéphane Bern, an initiative of the state-sponsored Fondation du Patrimoine, which selected this expansive restoration as a “National Emblematic Project”. This distinction provides several critical funding options:

  • The creation of a dedicated financing fund via the Fondation du Patrimoine
  • The inclusion of Serre de la Madone in the Mission Bern’s annual lottery, the Loto du Patrimoine
  • Strategic and media support from the Mission Bern to help solicit additional donations, intended to provide an additional 100,000 euros

The precious support of the Fondation du Patrimoine is a great help, but does not fulfill the full funding needed to save Serre de la Madone, which is why we appeal to the generosity of all through donations from individuals, businesses and foundations.

Two ways to give

Your donation via the Fondation du Patrimoine directly finances phases 2 & 3 of the garden’s restoration. A tax receipt will be issued by the Fondation.

Purchase tickets for the Loto du Patrimoine this September at any lottery vendor in France.

Tax benefits

Whether you donate directly to Serre de la Madone, or to the Mission Bern, your gift is tax-deductible if you pay tax in France.

  • Individuals can claim a reduction of 66% of the amount donated, capped at 20% of annual taxable income
  • Companies can claim 60% of the value of their gift up to a maximum of €20,000 or 0.5% of their annual revenue, whichever is greater.

Help us save Serre de la Madone

Each gift, no matter its size, contributes to the preservation of an important and unique piece of nature and culture on the Riviera.

To give is to foster, today and for future generations, the beauty, biodiversity, and memory of a place inhabited by a century of important biological history.
