Honoring a rich citrus history
Menton is known as the “lemon capital”. Thanks to its exceptional climate, with moderate conditions and a coastal environment, the area benefits from a microclimate ideal for growing this golden fruit.
Long before Lawrence Johnston created Serre de la Madone, the land was an agricultural property, with a significant portion of it arranged in terraces for growing lemon and orange trees.
The restoration project aims to honor the garden’s (and Menton’s) agricultural roots by installing a collection of lemon trees for conservation, education and agricultural production.
Make Menton’s history part of yours
Three lower terraces, open to the public via a viewing path will be planted with different trees ideal for education and conservation. Above this area, fourteen more terraces are in development for agricultural production.
Up to 100 of these trees are available for adoption. Planting will begin in 2026, but trees can be adopted now, for 1,150€ each. By adopting a tree, you help fund its care for years to come. A commemorative plaque will be attached to the tree you adopt.
Once your tree is planted, you’ll be notified, and if so desired, a date will be set when you can come to the garden and watch as your commemorative plaque is attached.
Let the world know your commitment to this exceptional place, or honor a loved one by leaving a plaque in their name.
